Abilities In Motion And Angle Oar LLC Collaborate To Make Kayaking Accessible To More Canadians
We met Cindy (Cynthia Blacklock) in a seated aerobics class at Parkwood Rehab Gym, London, Ontario.
She was a happy, fun-loving woman who had a recent stroke and was talking about missing kayaking with her husband. When she learned about Abilities In Motion adaptive kayaking sessions, she eagerly signed up. John, her husband came along too. Cindy soon realized that she could return to kayaking and John remained a steadfast volunteer with AIM. Sadly, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, Cindy passed away on September 2, 2022, at age of 72.
She loved travelling and camping in Canada and winter travels to warmer climates. She loved being in and on the water. Swimming gave her a sense of freedom as she was more mobile in a lake than on land. Whale watching and kayaking were other activities that gave her joy.
She will be fondly remembered by her family and her many friends.
Abilities In Motion gives a huge Thank you to the Blacklock family and friends for the donations in memory of Cynthia Blacklock.
2023 Abilities In Motion fees
For many of our past paddlers, as well as so many others, things have not quite returned to the way they were before COVID.
In an effort to make it a little easier to get back to what you loved, Abilities In Motion (AIM) is incredibly pleased to announce that for the 2023 paddling season we are waiving all individual and organizational membership fees.
Additionally, AIM is waiving all sessional fees for individuals with a disability and their support person (should one be needed). That's right! Paddling with AIM this summer is completely FREE!! AIM will continue to charge a fee for those seeking a certification course offered by one of our ORCKA or Paddle Canada instructors.
AIM has been able to do this thanks to the generous support of funders and our dedicated group of volunteers.
Abilities in Motion wishes to recognize and thank our sponsors and donors for their incredible support, and thank those that helped make our fundraising efforts, including Hands Across the Water such a success.
In return, AIM is asking all our paddlers (or organizations) to ensure they are attending all sessions for which they registered (or contact AIM when you realize you will be unable to make it so we can offer the spot to another paddler). Please continue to share your experiences and encourage new paddlers to come out and enjoy what AIM has to offer.
